Uncertain Times, by Maude Fortier track by Maude Fortier

The excellent Montréal-based sax player Maude Fortier has just released a single, "Uncertain Times" with cover photo taken a few weeks ago by me.

In the 1980s I spent a week on a large estate in the West Highlands of Scotland and asked the caretaker how many sheep they had there. "Oh about ten and a half thousand," he casually replied. I don't think he was exaggerating.

You may have meant to type « white snow » but by late February all snow is shite snow here. We are ready for spring!

Nice! How do you like your Minox? I love the images from them but am leery of buying one due to the seemingly inevitable shutter failures (which I know can be fixed). I had a similar Ricoh FF-1 and loved it for its pocketable size and quiet leaf shutter, but its shutter died too!

It's a great film. That really was a golden age for musicians, photographers, and designers, they were making it up as they went along with few constraints. And LP album covers had so much real estate! CD covers had a smaller canvas and nowadays we are supposed to view album art on our phones.

Well, thanks for recommending Squaring the Circle. Any film by Anton Corbijn is worth watching; I just rented it and based on the first few minutes I'm going to love it. Thanks!

If you haven't watched the PBS series "Icon: Music through the Lens," I highly recommend it! Wonderful insights from some of the greats (photographers and musicians), including an interview with Gered Mankowitz in which he mentions using a Hasselblad because it was perfect for album covers.

I found the MODE group on Flickr; it seems Flickr will use social media to promote photographers who add their photos to that group ("to expand the reach of our Flickr members"). Maybe there's more to it than that, guess we'll know tomorrow when they launch.

Thanks, Torsten. This was the last frame and I accidentally moved the tripod a bit while closing the shutter (it was -22°C with the wind chill factor and I was shivering!), so I thought, "well, too bad about that one." But it turned out to be my favourite shot on the roll.
