The gold thorn embroidery on his robes took many attempts, but I am happy with this look. In my own head canon, Taravangian’s robes were embroidered in white when we meet him in The Way of Kings, but by Words of Radiance, he has subconsciously been moving away from appearing as humble as he used to aim for and is subtly incorporating elements of gold.

Miniature figure of Shallan’s spren Pattern as he appears in Shadesmar. Pattern is solid black except for his marble white hands. He wears stiff a robe in sharp folds, and instead of a head, there is a mass of lines in a fractal pattern. He is standing on shiny black obsidian land of Shadesmar. I painted the head too many times and much of the detail has been obscured. If I have a chance, I would do a more interesting paint job with his robes, and make his head look nicer. He deserves to look good- he’s famous!

I’d never painted minis before this, and it’s been a rewarding journey bringing my favorite book characters to life in my home. It took over a year, and along the way I was even inspired to create a few additions of my own.
