Now is exactly the time for us to be discerning about potential candidates. I am going to vote against Vance (or whatever other nightmare scenario) no matter what, but now is our chance to find someone who actually stands for what we say we stand for, not the most mediocre camera-ready person.

Agree on the rich variety of this giant country but I believe that someone who did the grassroots work to reach out to these local folks can find common ground while still advancing a progressive agenda (pro-worker, pro-family, anti-billionaire)

Agree - any work he’s doing that protects folks in CA, role models for other politicians, & chips away @ the MAGA veneer is valuable. I’m left, but not “deep left”, & believe we can & must do better than Newsom if we want structural change rather than just winning an election.

It can’t be about identity. We need a candidate who has values and plans and represents working Americans and families, whatever their demographics. That is what Mamdani, Krasner, and the countless down ballot progressives who won seats this year should be teaching us.

Yes - he has charisma and did the work, but unlike Newsom, he took - and stuck to - a principled stance.

Trump was not “electable” in 2016 but reached people by speaking to their (basest) interests. We can do the same but for good.

Anyone who paid attention Tuesday should see we don’t need to keep running the same Carville/Plouffe playbook from 1995. Stop chasing “electability”. Start running real candidates with hearts & souls who address actual issues and reach out to actual people, not PACs.
