08.12.2025 12:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Today, we're on the junction of Appledore Gardens and Wrekin Road in the historic east Shropshire market town of Wellington, where we find a vanishingly rare red Bonar Rotaform grit bin (a long-defunct, former Sheffield-based manufacturer that ceased trading around 2002).
πΆ And see how his face glows: it's a grit bin! What a surprise. It's a big grit bin! What a big surprise. It's a red grit bin! What a red surprise. Ooooh, what a surprise! πΆ

A forestry track through mixed woodand.
Mixed woodland, including silver birch, pines, gorse and dead bracken.
A landscape of green fields and hedgerows as viewed from the top of Haughmond Hill near Shrewsbury. The A5 dual carriageway is in the centre, heading westward towards Wales. I will be wistfully looking up at the hill from this road on my commute during the week.
The Haughmond Hill trig point, hidden by mixed woodland that must have grown up since trig points were no longer needed.
Snaps from this morning's Winter Bird Survey visit to Haughmond Hill near Shrewsbury.
It's very different compared to our Breeding Bird Survey visits there. Less vegetation, far fewer obvious birds, but still a delight. Highlight was four Crossbill.
