Tim Houston made hundreds of thousands in cuts to tourism and culture, but had $300,000 to gift to mining developers, citing that “mineral exploration brings $35 to $50 million per year to Nova Scotia communities”

Meanwhile tourism revenue in NS in 2025 was $3.7 billion, growing ~8% per year.

I've been both a federal and provincial public servant. I left the NS govt last year for health reasons, but I was glad to leave. Houston's govt is openly hostile to govt workers, and it's a miserable place for many to work. Unfortunately, he wants to make NS a miserable place to live, too.

Cutting 12 museums & programs that bring artists/writers into schools. My publisher, @NimbusPub, already gets by on very little and now will have grants cut. This means fewer books published, fewer NS stories told, and a diminished provincial shared identity. Voices silenced. History lost.

I'm furious at so many of the cuts in NS's provincial budget. They'll impact all Nova Scotians, in ways we don't fully comprehend yet. We didn't vote for eliminating bridge tolls, and now the gov't has to find that revenue loss elsewhere -- like in cuts to arts and culture. As a writer, this hurts.
