Guangzhou is at the center of the fascinating Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, the largest urban agglomeration on the planet with around 70 million inhabitants and is part of the Pearl River Delta economic zone. We'll probably be organizing some visits around the conference.

First, Infra4dev is THE conference on infrastructure and development where frontier research can get to talk to both policymakers, MDBs, and private sector folks.

How our thinking about an energy system running on solar and wind is evolving First we discovered solar and wind could become abundant and cheap; now we are discovering we can store electricity, in the future we will discover how to create our energy system bottom-up

In this new substack post I sketch how humanity slowly came to the realization that our future energy system will mainly run on solar and wind, and why this energy system will be using local semi-autonomous units we call holons.

"More solar leads to more coal in China."

This is true in the short term, but even then the effect is much less emissions.

Long term we will produce solar with solar and the effect is no emissions.

I suspect this hand wringing is often by people who can't see the forest for the trees.
