Memo to Trump: Create sensible AI policies that focus on real—not speculative—concerns A sensible AI policy must address its problems without inhibiting US's dominant position and avoid placing attention on speculative concerns.

A bunch of policy memos for the incoming administration have been published by @thebulletin.org --- I had the opportunity to write one of them on sensible policies for AI.

I mean, we should not take sides in the emotion theory debate and discount other views; it is certainly not our turf :) There was a time when Ekman's theory dominated the discourse, and others' papers/grant proposals, etc., were rejected for not conforming to the mainstream view of thee time.

Let's not create Ekman 2.0. The emotion theory debate is far from settled. It is fair to present different theories and their implications for affective computing. I emphasize expressions' utility for social communication; a robot should be able to smile back regardless of subjective feelings, etc.
