AlTA for throwing out my fiancé and her sons stuff? Me and my fiancé have been together for 7 years and she has a 15yo son Jake. Home life is good for the most part but it took awhile to get to this point. For awhile me and Jake butt heads. He struggled with a man who wasnt his father having authority and I struggled with the concept on raising another man's kid when, for awhile, I didnt feel it was my job (not because I didnt WANT to do it but because Jake's dad is an absolute shit bag, pays no support and barely took his son and I felt my fiancé gave him far too much slack for the sake of peace). But it goes without saying that there was absolutely a huge power struggle between me and Jake and we honestly did not get along at all until this year. I started intense therapy and did a ton of soul searching and I was the problem. I changed my ways, I adapted, stopped blaming, tried to find connection and it worked. IG & Threads: @ask_aubry

Now, full admittance to my bullshit here, back in the beginning of this relationship I would throw stuff in the garbage that I didnt hold any value in my eyes and I have worked out with my therapist that it was likely due to the fact that I wanted control and would do anything to get it. Not deep control (like didnt control them, their actions, etc but I did control what was in the home due to past trauma linked to my mom and sisters hoarding). I was honestly just not a good person and yes, I tossed out a lot of their things that simply did not make sense to me. Like if they bought shoes, they would keep the boxes and stuff them full of random stuff that, in my eyes, they did not need. Or Jake would save every single bullet casing he ever found and they would constantly be all over the house. And I would toss them because in my mind, you're creating filth. You're creating mess. You're leaning toward hoarding. So I never asked them and I just threw it all away, often. And my fiancé lost

Well, her and Jake left for the week to go see my fiancé's sick mom and I decided to do a deep clean of the house. I thought I was doing a good deed, honestly. All of us have been slacking due to Jake's school and extracurriculars, me and my fiancès work load and her moms recent diagnosis, so the house was just gross and it was on all of us. So I went through the house and just started cleaning and I had it in my head that they were going to come home and be less stressed because its one less thing for them to worry about. Well, I cleaned off Jake's desk, which had a bunch of energy drink cans. And I also cleaned off my wife's desk,

where I tossed out quite a few essential oils because the bottles were broken or leaking or whatever. Now, maybe I am just absolutely dumb but I am seeing cans and thinking Jake simply didnt pick up after himself and I am seeing broken oil bottles that are leaking on to the desk and thinking its garbage and she simply hadnt gotten to it. Its broken, all these items are trash. But I was wrong. Because they got home and Jake completely broke down because apparently he had never thrown out any of the energy drink cans he ever got because he was planning to use them for his end of the year school project. had no idea. And my fiancé flipped out asking why I would toss any of her shit away, broken or not, and within 40 minutes her and Jake left again to go stay somewhere else. She sent me a text saying "you lost your value to me when you started controlling what me and my son were allowed to find value in". Now she wont respond to me at all.
