there's always a method to reset your savefile to nothing but the main thing is that a lot of people are extremely lazy and leaderboards tend to be moulded around those types so not sure how this is gonna shake out

I am curious how the leaderboard structure will work for Requiem because it's another one of those games where you can't turn NG+ unlocks off or simply start a fresh file but unlike RE7 where you can just choose not to take NG+ stuff out of the box, some upgrades are permanent and passive

i don't like the implications that resident evil 1 is a game that exists inside the resident evil universe. that thought has only struck me just now but I'm going to lose sleep over it.

imo the greatest sin Requiem commits is inaccurate portrayal of Saturn game cases. Get it together, Capcom.

it is on face value so strange to me that RE9 bills itself as doing this big grand return to past locales, look guys! look where it all started!

re2make continues to be the worst thing to happen to this franchise

like ok it's not constantly awful or anything but I do think the game loses serious momentum and it was really disappointing that part had basically nothing new to show me? It felt like playing through whatever the opposite of a Greatest Hits compilation was but authored by a mediocre cover band

the resi remakes, is the thing I'm alluding to here.

That first half is pretty good! That second half is pretty not! Very odd choice to do a bunch of nostalgia bait bullshit for games that are like 5 years old and also bad. Remember this? yeah, it was bad. why are we reprising this.

of course the only way to get better would be to just do it but that's the thing I just wanna play cool games and talk about them? I'm not incredibly interested in the idea of learning how to write snappy character dialogue? I appreciate those who can but it's not where my passions in specific lie?

I sometimes have to translate sections of game for my videos for the audience which I am still not that comfortable doing and I tend to run such things by a bilingual friend who is actually experienced with writing character dialogue because he tends to have more elegant ideas than me lol

some people have the idea that all you need to translate effectively is an ability to speak both English and Japanese and while that is obviously a pre-requisite, it's more complicated than that? It's creative writing and that's not a skill you just acquire naturally as a consequence of bilinguality

also ok tertiary thing but I do get a little annoyed when people kind of implicitly demand I should spend huge amounts of my time to create free translations just because I have a functional amount of japanese in my head

honestly no I hadn't heard any real rumblings of any efforts before this one

as someone who y'know, cares about the games he is choosing to represent, I am touchy about doing it properly because the audience doesn't know better and while some trust me to know better, others will simply gravitate towards coverage where the footage is in the language they can read

I still, to this day, get requests to cover Germs: Nerawareta Machi because "there's an english translation patch now" but it's MTL bullshit so it's not even vaguely usable and that puts me at a constant dilemma because if I forgo it I have to explain to everyone why I'm doing that.

Thirdly, because the existence of a competent TL makes doing The Content Thing easier. Shallow, yes, I know. But the flipside is that the existence of an MTL makes my life *harder* because people who don't know any better will ask me why I didn't use "the english patch" or insist I should've done so

secondly, because I would like to share what is a genuinely extremely interesting and introspective work with non-japanese speakers in a way that does not require me to like, tediously live translate everything line by line in a way that, as stated above, I am not really able to do anyway

despite speaking japanese I would still appreciate a well-done loc of Segagaga because the references in that game are dense and I don't understand like. half of them because I'm not a middle aged japanese person. knowing the language itself only gets you so far here, it's a very dense game
