Thoughts and prayers with national media editors who breathlessly opened live blogs to cover the railway's GSM-R "chaos" only to discover it's a relatively minor problem, and who are now having to keep the coverage open to avoid looking stupid.

If you really care about productivity, why aren't you examining the value of mandatory code review? I know this is my least popular take, but it remains unclear to me that it improves quality commensurate to cost, and it's the most unquestioned shibboleth in tech today

Back when, Bill Mantlo had a habit of occasionally plagiarizing stuff in comics, under the impression that it was fine because everyone did it. But he made the mistake of plagiarizing an Ellison story in HULK, and the shit hit the fan, because Harlan actually read it.

I haven't deleted it, as far as I'm aware. I thought it's a blocking bug, but... I haven't blocked the guy, either? No idea what happened.

My landlord was one of the best people in my life. My bosses, too, except for one. I don't get that part of it, feels like an easy target for stupid hate speech.

Can confirm, works quite well. Please enjoy this egg on toast.

I honestly believe that if a stranger blocking you on social media results in significant psychological damage, the block is not the problem (and the blocker cannot be held accountable in any way)

My general opinion is that β€œgood vibes only” is not a great strategy for life but is a perfectly good β€” possibly optimal β€” one for social media. If someone makes you furrow your brow a millimeter, go ahead and block, this is just a weird little phone app we’re hanging out on for a minute

Edit history of Linda Yaccarino's post about how exTwitter doesn't condone antisemitism... shows that she edited in and basically rewrote the bland statement 4 times. The final one: " X opposes antisemitism in all its forms. Antisemitism is evil and X will always work to fight it on our platform. And X is also always open to proactively working together in that fight with all groups."

When your "no, the company I pretend to be CEO of, that is threatening to sue the ADL, driven by literal Nazi celebrations, is not at all supportive of antisemitism" post that you post after sundown on Friday (when observant Jews will not be online), needs 4 edits after you post it...

Print of dark grey ink on off white paper of a spotted kitten in an ornate slipped. The kitten appears to have fit itself into the hole where the foot goes and fallen asleep in an upright position with its face tucked down into the heel of the slipper. It looks quite neat and cozy.

When you use a quote to justify a programming (or really, any) argument, always look up the quote's original context and purpose. You don't want to trot out "no plan survives contact with the enemy" only to learn that the quotee wrote 500 pages on how awesome plans were and we should all plan more
