Thanks @martinowk.bsky.social for presenting the Erwin lab poster from our recent publication. I am so excited to follow this science into the clinic with Aluco Biosciences's small molecule targeting this pathology. Glad you are excited about the findings. Hope all is well at lieber.

Would be great to chat with you @sofiyahupalo.bsky.social about this paper keri mentioned from my lab while I was at the lieber institute. I'm now CSO at Aluco Biosciences. We have a small molecule targeting this biology. Our first in human trials will be this year.

We just got an email that Hopkins is freezing salaries, hiring, and some construction projects. In addition to the 800 million USAID we lost, we’ve had another 50 million in grants canceled so far. And a 2/3 year over year decline in funded grants despite an increase in submissions

A quick summary from the end of another long day...
Some, but not all, tenure track investigators within their first 2 years did receive termination emails. I have not yet been able to determine why some did and not others. Even with one branch, there was variability.

I have learned from several sources that NIH staff tried to find out how to transfer F31-diversity applications to other program announcements for funding but were not able to do this. I don't know whether this was technical (regulations) or ideological.

We are hearing that Andy Singleton, director of a new and promising Alzheimer's research center at NIH, just announced his resignation.
This will disrupt innovative new Alzheimer's work to go beyond the "amyloid hypothesis." Bad news for anyone who's been touched by this disease. 🧪

Andrew Singleton
Singleton accomplishments
Singleton works on neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
He's from the UK. He'll have plenty of job options.
These are the kind of high-skilled workers that are lost when govt is under attack.
