By throwing it away, he isn't just getting rid of the evidence. He chooses to trust his daughter. Acknowledging that she could easily have lied is too painful. She would have asked him. He would have said no, just for a while, for good measures. She wouldn't need to go behind his back.

Would she?

The moment she's out of sight, he grabs the box mindlessly. Somehow, having it on the counter is becoming heavier by the second as if it carried more than a simple patisserie. Because having the box around can only mean one thing. Because it means she lied to him. And he can’t accept that.

If she noticed her father freezing, nothing betrays her when he glances up at her. Although he's afraid of the answer, he has to ask her. The words rush out faster than he would like. So when Daph brushes off his question with a broad smile, he wants to accept it as the only possible truth.

But as he turns around, he notices it. An innocent little blue box carelessly forgotten on the counter. Like the ones sold at the café where he went for lunch. The same one where Victor admitted to taking his girlfriend for brunch.

As soon as Victor is no longer with her, Daph resumes her normal life, acting as if nothing happened. She is almost fully accustomed to this cycle, to her two lives. One with him murmuring endearments in her ear, the other discussing her next role and the details of the shoot while her father cooks.

His thoughts were so focused on Isabelle during the interviews that he hadn't really paid attention, but now that the work was done and the stress had faded, he could no longer be in denial.

𝙀𝙢𝙢𝙖 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙢.

Jasper turns his attention back to Emma, who rolls her eyes as if to say, ‘𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘴’. But that's when he notices it. That little sparkle in her eyes. The one she always had when she was with him, but he never paid attention to. Her hand, casually close to his.

Irene, guessing his annoyance, discreetly brushes his arm as a warning and resumes the conversation as if nothing had happened. Jasper raises an eyebrow but sighs. It would indeed be completely unreasonable to make a scene over such a trivial matter. He's used of her comments by now, 𝙪𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮.

As for Jasper, it's time for celebrations. The interviews may have been exhausting, but they worked, and the press has lost interest in their relationship. Emma's comment slips out faster than she intended, but everyone knows her opinion of Isa by now anyway, though it does cause Jasper to frown.

Victor lifts Daphne off the counter, earning a surprised squeal from her, and carries her away in a bridal style. In their bubble of happiness, everything seems so simple between them, and Daphne finds herself laughing out loud at Victor's not-so-subtle suggestions.

Victor draws closer with every word Daph expresses, his hands wrapping around her hips and his head resting on her shoulder, enveloping himself in her distinctive scent. When he leaves a trail of kisses on her neck, Daph loses her train of thought, captivated by her lover.

Daph climbs onto the kitchen counter, taking advantage of her father's absence to enjoy the house with Victor. Her eyes widen at the story of his encounter, but also at the three little words he pronounced so casually, as if loving her were the simplest thing in the world.

So, when Emma appears before them, he is almost relieved that Jasper's attention is diverted elsewhere. Mumbling an apology, Victor takes the opportunity to leave them to their business.

Seeing Jasper's warm reaction, Victor is almost ready to spill the whole truth right then and there. He loves her and wants the whole world to know. But he knows that she would never forgive him for doing so, not without her by his side.

Victor doesn't have Daph's acting talent and hates lying above all else, but that doesn't stop him from talking about his girlfriend without mentioning her name, right?
Meanwhile, Jasp watches Vic affectionately. The way he got lost in his thoughts when talking about his partner is very touching.

It's too late to turn back now without looking particularly suspicious or worse... stupid. Victor plays along and accepts Jasper's extended hand. The latter seems to be in a particularly teasing mood and Victor's cheeks flush as soon as Jasper mentions the idea of him being on a date.

As he heads over to pay the bill, Vic stops abruptly. It's one thing to want to keep their relationship a secret for a little while longer but coming face to face with Jasper, lost in thoughts, is quite another. Vic discreetly swears when the latter turns his head and instantly notices him.

When he brings up the idea of telling the truth to her father, Daph bites her lower lip. It would be the most reasonable thing to do, but she is terrified at the thought. What if Jasper doesn't accept it? What if he makes them break up? Keeping this as a secret suck but at least it belongs to 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢.

Victor is particularly proud of how far she has come and what she is building, both professionally and on a personal level. She’s becoming an incredible woman, and his heart is overflowing with joy at the thought that she is willing to share this with him when she could choose a simpler relationship

They both know the risk of going out in public like this, especially being so tactile, but neither of them cares. Besides, she's also celebrating her upcoming role. It's a small, insignificant part, and it's in 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨' movie. But she's decided to accept their help to get back on her feet.

CHAPTER NINE : The date

The morning light streams through the café windows, as classical music accompanies the conversations. Vic caresses Daph's hand, while she takes in the atmosphere of the place, still amazed that he chose to take her here to mark the milestone of being a couple. Her 𝙗𝙤𝙮𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙.
