A5. Wonderful supportive T&S colleagues in my department and beyond who offered opportunities, advice and a kick up the arse to apply for promotions and other roles. A great boss. #LTHEChat

A4. Yes - I've gone from 'traditional' department-based academic to senior education leadership. Inclusion and co-creation with students has also become really important parts of my identity; the latter is not just vital but a lot of fun because I still get to work directly with students. #LTHEChat

A3. I've always been a teacher - starting aged 13 as a sunday school teacher (though primarily to avoid having to sit through the sermon ;-) ). A very strong vocation at the bottom of it all, and now I guess a drive to ensure that all students have a great learning experience. #LTHEChat

A2. I have two professional identities. I'm an Ancient Historian and still teach (the 'prof' bit), then the dean bit, which is the culmination of the second career I developed when I moved from a T&R pathway to T&S. I think the dean title better reflects how I'm perceived in the uni now. #LTHEChat

Ahhhh! I've seen this from some academics here. It irritates the *&%$ out of me and probably inhibits progress because a few people won't listen to experts. Grrr. #LTHEChat

A1. Yes, though it means I have probably the longest job title in the university... Dean for Portfolio, Curriculum and Learning Innovation.
Does it matter? I dunno, but nobody's asked me 'so what do you actually do?' since I started the role last June. Gotta be a good thing! #LTHEChat

I suspect we shared part of the route - this was our second campsite, close to Llyn CraigyPistyll (our first was the upper Hengwm valley).

Wonderful area; did a super backpack from Machynlleth to Borth and came out of the hills via the Leri valley. Then one of my companions proclaimed that she'd grown up in the Leri valley!
We never made it to Borth - the pub in Talybont got in the way :-D

I do find the English bias in the commentary on ITV very wearing though.

A6. I was gonna go for the succinct 'both' too but then saw nearly everyone else had.
So I'll say 'top-down and bottom-up, but also in from the sides with sharing of ideas and perhaps development of LCs across disciplines. #LTHEChat

A5 Discussion boards can become LCs - an assessment-focused discussion board can lead to wonderful student mutual aid posts (esp if the nature of the assessment means they can actively support each other by reading drafts and swapping ideas).

A3 By ensuring we provide time for it. And persuading some colleagues and managers that this is valuable learning time - potentially more valuable than glazing over in another lecture ;-) #LTHEChat

A2. Hopefully students will see the benefits for themselves, but 'the academy' itself is - or should be - a learning community in itself, so in a way it's an authentic learning experience of university. #LTHEChat

Super-fun role-playing workshop with my Roman army class today with students taking on personae of Romans and locals who have an army unit build a fort next to a civilian community. Exploring interactions between soldiers and civilians in the Roman world.
Some super analysis and extrapolation.

That the toilets in other buildings are utterly vile compared with those in the main building where the exec work.
