I looked into doing this, even tho I love AO3. Unfortunately, by 2015-2016 the base code was too byzantine for pretty much anyone to replicate without a huge base of knowledge about AO3 specifically. Even the volunteers have said it's pretty much impossible at this point :/

Well, from what I understand, this is a company, not a person. All I've done is point out that willingness to sacrifice marginalized communities to protect prioritized communities sends a very clear and specific message.
I might, if anyone gave me a reason to. But so far, no one has. Not that I'm asking anyone to; I'm pointing out how this looks to a lot of people. Maybe you should reflect on why your first instinct is to be dismissive of concerns from marginalized communities.
a vulnerable minority without warning or notice for the good of others, which is really worrying given the current atmosphere of trying to appease rightwing bigots who would be happy to see us all gone permanently. It's scary when someone believed to be trustworthy acts in ways that raise doubts.
I guess it comes down to whether or not people are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't know if they've earned that or not; the screencaps I've seen floating around definitely didn't give the impression of what you've said. I saw a company who was immediately open to sacrificing

Speaking as someone on the outside of this specific case but with a strong interest in anti-censorship, haven't they already gone away in the sense that they are no longer an extremely inclusive platform that is safe for queer and indie creators? Regardless of why, that's how it looks to me.
