Life stages of invasive Spotted Lanternfly, set around a US quarter. Starting at top is 1st Instar- tiny black and white, 2nd Instar- medium sized black and white, 3rd Instar- large black and white, 4th Instar- Red with black and white spots. Then adults, with the male smaller than the female- buff colored top things with black spots on top 2/3rds, crosshatch type black print on bottom 3rd, red , black and white underwings. Black body and legs. Adults are between 1" and 1 5" in size. Kill on sight, best approached from front for adults. Flyswatter works gray. Ailanthus(Tree of Heaven, smells like rancid peanut butter when leaves are crushed) is their native host tree and should be removed as much as possible.
Yup. They go through 4 stages before adulthood.
