FYI you wouldn't need an expensive pipeline with OCR, simply Ghostscript can calculate the bounding box of a page to safely crop out margins / whitespace and increase readability. It's computationally cheap but the costs can add up, depending on the scale

But I understand that this would be a lot more expensive than the zero cost alternative of client-side previews, so I'll gladly take the lower subscription price 🫰

Embedded PDF previews are impractical on mobile. It’s better to display a whitespace-cropped screenshot of the top half of the first page. This allows users to quickly see the document’s content and decide whether to open it with their preferred small-screen workflow
