And at a moment when the risk of volunteers facing Israel’s naked force has significantly risen.

Well done to all those who have tirelessly campaigned for the recognition of Palestine — an inalienable right of the Palestinian people.
Next, the UK should recognise the genocide in Gaza, end its complicity in crimes against humanity, and stop arming Israel.
The most interesting one was the case filed by Mali against Algeria with no jurisdictional basis. It simply said “let’s see if the other side consents.”
So, we could just witness a rare instance of “forum prorogatum” attempt, something always tought in lectures but seldom seen in practice.
Yesterday was a highly busy day at the International Court of Justice: 2 new cases were filed, and Brazil applied to intervene in the South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.

“When states fail, humanity sets sail”
Just as Israel’s naval blockade is a violation of international law, the Global Sumud Flotilla is a civilian initiative fully consistent with it. I wrote for @middleeasteye-rss.bsky.social :

Carrying out this strike on the same day that it probably orchestrated a drone attack against a foreign vessel docked in another state’s territorial waters…
all demonstrate that Israel, under its current government, has become a state capable of assaulting the sovereignty of any state anytime.
Unlike Syria or Lebanon, whose sovereignty it had previously violated, this time targeting a country under the security protection of its own greatest ally, the United States…

UN Rapporteur on the OPT, Francesca Albanese joined us as the keynote speaker.
Great thanks to WOLAS, Tunis Bar Association and the Gaza Tribunal for this meaningful and timely event, and giving me the honour of moderating one of the sessions!
On September 3, we have successfully concluded the symposium “The Gaza Blockade and Global Sumud Flotilla: Legal Implications” with two sessions comprised of nine scholars from different countries, and one special session for the Global Sumud Flotilla Steering Committee members.

My elaborated take on the latest ICJ advisory opinion of the ICJ regarding the climate change and GHG emission related obligations of states:

We’ll be in Tunis, whereby Global Sumud Flotilla will depart to Gaza, in order to discuss the legal implications of the intensified Gaza Blockade and efforts to break it:

We’ll be discussing with Prof. Quigley:
• The place of the two-state solution in international law
• The historical rights of Palestinians
• Its feasibility in today’s geopolitical context
• Alternatives for sustainable peace

Such a statement by an ICJ judge is a pure scandal, perhaps delivering one of the greatest blows to the credibility of the so-called World Court (ICJ).
It is a reckless confession of abandoning any shred of impartiality.

I discussed for CNN Turk what it means from international law perspective that states like the United Kingdom and France are successively recognizing Palestine as a state:

Qetevan Qistauri explains how Gaza and Iran expose deep cracks in the international legal order where legal norms are invoked but rarely enforced and power trumps principle – when law becomes selective, justice becomes symbolic.

I discussed on CNN Türk’s “5N1K”whether the attacks by Israel and the U.S. on Iran could be deemed lawful under international law as acts of “preemptive self-defense”.
youtu.be/K0fGHkGlDgo?...
The EU leaders and foreign policy chiefs could manage making a greater and greater mockery out of themselves with their reactions after each attack.
The modern international law order is -no doubt- mostly Eurocentric, but it seems that it will be torn apart in a Eurocentric way too.
A million people marched against the illegal war in Iraq and they were right.
Now the same script is playing out again. Same lies, same institutions, same push for war.
We can’t let history repeat itself.
Israel has taken the already shaky preemptive self-defense doctrine to such an extreme that the whole idea has lost its meaning.

Not "preemptive."
Illegal.
There is no evidence of an actual or imminent armed attack by Iran.
This is a blatant violation of the UN Charter.
It has no legal basis in the right of self-defense.
Now we wait to see how many civilians will die because of this insanity.
