I’d personally rather read about someone’s design philosophy and process, which you rarely find on a portfolio

What should a designers “about me” section on their portfolio site contain? Do you care about someone’s education or background?

Did some digging and when you feed midjourney original input, the output won’t be wholly original. “It’s work influenced by your input and other data midjourney has been trained on.”

The displays and their UI/UX don’t look very thought through from what I can see. Probably a “we’ll think about that later” decision. I have a feeling the produced car will end up looking quite different compared to the presented concept car.

It depends. If your work truly hits the nail on the head and you present it clearly, sometimes there just isn’t much feedback or many questions—doesn’t have to mean something is wrong!

Still, it’s a refreshing take on AI in design—not remixing or "borrowing" from web-sourced work, but enhancing efficiency while retaining a handcrafted essence. Kudos to Pentagram for setting a new standard.

Curious what other designers think about this? I read lots of negative comments so far.

What I don’t love: the small inconsistency in the final outputs. Stroke, colors, and composition differ noticeably between assets (like the desert illustration example). It disrupts the cohesion and weakens the overall system, IMO.

Pentagram started with handmade inputs for the illustrations, using AI as a tool to reduce manual work without compromising originality or craftsmanship. This approach feels intentional and respectful of the design process. 👏

Normally, I find AI-generated assets often make designs feel cheap—they tend to look, well, AI-generated. But Pentagram's work for Performance.gov is a standout exception. Here's why I think it’s a brilliant example of how AI should be used: 🧵

This is exactly why I don’t like when people call out that “design” and “art” are two completely different things. They go hand in hand, design is a form of art.
