I suppose I'll grant that people have more tools with which to be jerks than ever before. I don't think that means a greater proportion of people are jerks, but it probably means we see more "new" ways people are jerks

Maybe the actual proportion of jerks has increased over time. Maybe! But I don't think I've seen evidence of this. I think we just tend to see more evidence of jerks globally because of social media, just like If It Bleeds It Leads journalism causes people to perceive an increase in crime

I wish people were better at understanding: if x% of all people are just kinda jerks, the number of jerks will increase over time as population increases, even if the proportion of the population stays exactly the same. Densely-populated cities will have more jerks, because that's how numbers work

I use it for (among many other things) line-editing, which still requires additional effort to produce, analyze, and apply AI output. I care very much about the task, in every part. "Using AI" has meaning beyond copy/pasting.

I don't care about AI company stock prices, and I already have plenty of uses for genAI so I feel pretty confident if none of these shitty companies can make it work, others will 🤷

"Is it a good business model" is a very different question from "does it have uses" and the conflation is tiring

If people wanna argue that generative AI is bad for environmental reasons, I think those are bad arguments but they're at least based in reality. "AI is bad because it is not useful" is demonstrably untrue and betrays a person who hates AI and ignores any information that doesn't confirm their view

Whenever I see posts like this, they have the opposite of the (I assume) intended effect: he's admonishing AI users for being intellectual children, but you can only believe this if you only pay attention to edge cases in the news and completely ignore the many, many use cases people regularly share
