I was once walking back to my hotel along a coastal path in Croatia at night, it was really dark and I saw what looked like a stone in front of me and got a weird feeling about it, so I walked around it carefully - and it jumped! Toad!

She’s also incredibly litigious, which is the main reason you don’t tend to hear these stories publicly.

Was also reading an interesting discussion about the glut of student accommodation in Glasgow. Apparently it’s now slowing down, they’ve reached the right amount of it and also locals are starting to get really vocally fucked off about any more being planned.

It’s just not the location for it, makes no sense.

Yeah it’s so sketchy, that bit’s always really smelly as well. Quite often have to hold my breath walking past cos of the combined smells of piss, vomit and weed.

It would be a very, very stupid developer to deliberately destroy a building so close to a majorly important transport hub like central. Very doubtful this has been the case here.

Similarly, talk about old buildings mysteriously going on fire to benefit greedy developers who couldn’t for a shit about our history or culture. Unfortunately that happens too often in this city, but I honestly don’t think this fire was deliberate, looks like carelessness at worst to me.

Was getting quite irritated about it but don’t want to jinx it by insisting people cool their jets. The fire was really bad but fire service seemed to be doing an excellent job of keeping it from spreading into central.

Glad to see central station is mostly ok too, saw too many people last night going “central is gone!” when there was no evidence that was the case.

Think it’s faster now (?) but at the time it took about 7 or 8 hours on the train.

Remember years ago when my dad lived in Reading, waiting for my train home after a visit (I was about 19yo) and a guard asked me where I was off to and I said Glasgow and he said “oh you’ve got a long way to go!” It’s like the most northerly major station if you’re travelling the length of the UK.

Londoners maybe don't understand how huge this is because they've got so many stations.

Glasgow has two and they're not set up to be easily interchangeable - Central goes everywhere south, Queen Street everywhere north.

Right? Some people are just thoughtless and like getting performatively angry about “nonces” or whatever, they couldn’t actually give a shit about their victims or the families.

Fire is awful and I hope no one is hurt and it doesn’t spread into central but I can’t help but lol at the thought of “sexy coffee has collapsed” being delivered in a grave intonation.

Glasgow Central is the busiest station in Scotland, and 3rd outside of London.
Luckily no casualties reported yet, but leaving aside my personal interest in the Grade A listed buildings at risk- this is going to hit commuters and Scotland particularly very hard.

I am also shocked by the lack of coverage of this fire. It’s so far only affecting the Union Street buildings, but one of those has partially collapsed, from what I can tell backwards into the station. And it’s not yet contained. This is major and more than halfway down BBC’s homepage.

Saw a video from earlier on when it was confined to one shop and you can hear bangs, sounds like batteries exploding :/

Yeah he works in Ireland sometimes too - ppl book bus tours of Scotland and Ireland quite often. Generally if you’re just there to have a nice holiday and you’re courteous and pleasant then everyone is fine with you. He’s had MAGA ppl b4 who don’t advertise it and are nice and they get on ok!
