This is speculation, but the company that made the Love Bank was Nichiten (also from Kyoto), and they released some toys and playing cards originally designed by Nintendo. There must have been frequent contacts between the two companies, and perhaps this way Yokoi received the item as a gift.

Hi. Nice to meet you too. The Love bank was an item that Yokoi owned and apparently liked. It was part of the display of interesting items at Koto Laboratory, founded by Yokoi in 1996. However, there is no indication that he was involved in the invention, and his name is not on the patent.
