This massive earthquake, now reported at 8.8 has prompted a tsunami warning in Hawaii and western Alaska and tsunami watch or advisory along the west cost of the US and most of the Alaska coast. β€œWarning” means move inland! β€œWatch” means stay out of water and away from beaches.

The "Magnitude 5.74" on the seismogram plot is not an earthquake magnitude. It's a 5.74 on our custom made scale of "Hockey Game Magnitude," which would be less than a ZERO on an earthquake magnitude scale.
