Tweet from 2024 with google image map showing the location of a 1979 nuclear test near a South African research station on a South African subantarctic island.

"In late 1979 South Africa appears to have helped Israel test a crude nuclear bomb in the Southern Ocean, near South Africa's research station on the subantartic Marion Island (about 1000 km west of Australia's Heard Island) -- the 'Vela incident'"

Nuclear testing? Yep, there is good evidence, which of course the US has attempted to obfuscate: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vela_in....

Tweet from 2024 with facsimile of document referring to South Africa nuclear bombs:

"It probably wasn't a South African bomb. Apartheid South Africa did construct half a dozen crude Hiroshima-type nuclear bombs in the 1980s (almost certainly with Israel's help), but it's unlikely one was ready for testing in 1979."

South African nukes? Yep, documented: nsarchive2.gwu.edu/NSAEBB/NSAEB....

Also, apartheid South Africa and apartheid Israel were great mates -- did stuff together, including making and testing nuclear bombs.

If we ~double consumption for 'panic buying', can probably reduce that to 20 days, of which 4 have already expired. Good luck.

Bowen told parliament last week that Australia had 34 days of diesel in 'storage', later clarified to include fuel onboard ships nearing port (some of which could presumably still be diverted to a higher bidder).

First question: Do the mine haul trucks keep moving, or the supermarket supply trucks? Or is it perhaps the now huge fleet of private Yank-tank diesel guzzlers?

(Tip: None of that is even approached in this waffle-fest document.)

As have often pointed out, consumers don't get to arbitrarily and heavily trim their purchases. They have to buy the whole CPI basket ... perhaps trimmed a bit by total quantity, rather than by statistical fudging around the slowest and fastest price-movers.

Since I never listen to Hanson, I simply don't know.

Anyway, take the hint. Very significant shortages may be nearer than you think, and not just of fuel.

She also told me to vote for Hanson, 'because she'll reopen the refineries'. That would be the decrepit, last century dinosaurs that have been decommissioned/demolished. Why do people believe this shit?

Local independent service station is already out of fuel, all kinds. Guess independents are the first to be denied deliveries. Proprietor tells me she's looking at potentially 30-50 days before next fuel.

Modern desal plants are just huge sheds full of plastic pipes and pumps. There's little distinguishing about them -- maybe the seawater intake (if can see it), perhaps big filter tanks out in the open. There's a technical paper about this one, paywalled.

FWIW, the main island desal plant seems to be here. There are several other smaller ones.

Not a desal plant (pictured). Still struggling with what it is. Maybe sand or fine aggregate storage, for concrete making, or roadworks? Yes it's been bombed, who knows why. Maybe the target analyst couldn't tell either.

(Doesn't mean the desal wasn't also bombed.)

What a stunning load of waffle. God help us if these clowns ever have to *do* anything (as opposed waffle about it).

It was a silly place for a golf course, even what was a very egalitarian hit-and-giggle public golf course. But now as a large public open space it's hugely valuable ... and about to be stolen.

Next, Brisbane Olympics. It will take the whole large inner city park, permanently, for private profit ... not just for a fortnight each year.
