Her stuff is nicely segmented. There are her horror books, which are all independent and seriously fucked up but still accessible. Then there is her sworn soldier series (lighter horror), her sad paladin series (romances, with dabs of horror) and the sword/clockwork stuff (adventure/romance)

I think the respectability politics comes in the form of Alex Pretti being unimpeachable - which is not a bar that any victim of violence should have to clear (hence the frustration) but it is certainly useful to the cause he was aiding. The cause is right to use that unimpeachability.

Yes, looking at daily life in other former hegemons - it's a mixed bag, but overall certainly doesn't look like something to be afraid of.
