BIL says tiger because it's cool looking, then changed to hammerhead for the same reason. Husband says mako because they're super quick. I like cookie cutter because they're so weird

I'm 44 and just got mine this year (was too old until the most recent time they extended the window of eligibility). I'm very glad my kids have gotten/will get it during the recommended times and be protected before they may be exposed to HPV.

2) Are you in the US?

3) Would you like to give a research seminar in Iowa?

4) Are you available to travel September 4-6?

If you can answer YES x4, please DM me ASAP, or comment below.

My favorite tool because it also has a setting for print friendly. And Adobe (at least Illustrator) has a View menu option where you can check distinctiveness of your color choices for types of color vision.

A screen shot of an email reading:

Dear Dr. Gill, Jacquelyn,

I am writing to let you know that given the current budgetary projections and recent adjustment of NSF’s over-arching priorities, NSF/BIO will not be making any new awards through the Biology Integration Institutes Program. Therefore, the solicitation has been archived, and NSF has returned your proposal without review so you can re-submit it, or portions of it, to appropriate BIO programs that currently are receiving new proposals, if you wish.

Sincerely,

Jim Deshler
Division Director (Acting)
Division of Biological Infrastructure

Last February, I led a proposal submission that encompassed six months, hundreds of hours, four institutions, a massive team, and and 256 pages. NSF just informed us that the entire Biology Integration Institute program was archived and our proposal would not even be reviewed.

With a form email.

If there's a mentoring program at your conference, sign up for it. My goal as a mentor for #JMIH2025 is to connect mentees with whoever they want to meet. Your PI should help you connect, but if they aren't there your other connections are generally happy to help.

πŸ§ͺ Detailed data viz NYT article, out today, on the extent of funding cuts at the National Science Foundation.

This "broken pie chart" is neat & new to me: Powerfully shows the slowdown in new NSF awards across areas.

Should Skylar take advantage of the momentary loss of power to eat all the watermelon popsicles from the freezer and not chance them melting? Or was that already taken care of?

It's frustrating how we are destroying our ability to move forward with science. I have a current grant in EDU, so I won't be affected by indirect cost changes till new applications, but I could definitely be affected by new terminations.

🚨 Practical URGENT tip for NSF grantees:

Out of an abundance of caution, I would right now go into Research.gov and…

1. Download your NSF award letters.

2. Print PDF your annual reports.

3. Screenshot the status table for annual reports.

NSF is planning maintenance tomorrow to Research.gov

ATTENTION: NSF GRANT RECIPIENTS

We received a heads up from a trusted source that you should proactively download/print/screen shot any documentation on research.gov pertaining to your NSF awards, both those that are current and any that have closed in the last 5-6 years.
