- 0 for ♾️ on the PP
- overall soft and unfocused in their own end.
- not much else to say. Hard to watch, which isn’t anything new since the 21-22 season.

#isles game 3 notes

- same players were good, and bad
- Sorokin’s has to sort out whatever he has going on. Some real softies
- 3-6 pairing is just otherworldly bad. 6 on one of the goals against facing the wrong way was… something.
- they’re shooting and creating, but still can’t finish.

The #isles responded well to Trotz’s even keeled demeanor (good cop) and may benefit from Roy pushing them (bad cop). You saw what they were capable midway through the game. Need to push them earlier. Deep forward group with potential, but they need to ride Schaffer’s energy and take advantage.

Worried about Sorokin’s confidence early. 8 GA on less than 60 shots in two games is a tough start. He’s had good moments, no question, but the #isles go as Sorokin goes. D needs to be cleaner in front of him.

- Overall #isles team play is still too sloppy, but at least it’s quicker. Can they fine-tune so they can play a cleaner, faster-paced game? Might take some time to sort out. Need to build confidence.
- Powerplay looked good with Schaffer. Finally some movement (re: 13-48 connection)
-PK. Woof.

- DeAngelo is too slow. It’ll bite the #isles eventually
- 3-6 pairing is still tough to watch
- Shabanov is fun. He’ll get his chances. Heinamen, too.
- Horvat still warming up. Confident he’ll get going
- Palms looks good early. Needs to find consistency

#isles Game 2 notes:

- Schaffer as advertised. Biggest thing for me is how he’s able to keep up with and bring out the best in Barzal, a la Eberle. The team is feeding off of him right now, but specifically seeing Barzal able to get up the ice cleaner and more effectively is huge.

Some notes from two periods of play for the #isles:

- Really like the idea Duke, Cizikas, and Tysp together.
- Shabanov, Pageau, and Holmstrom feels safe, has potential
- Sorokin shaky to start. Lots of bobbled pucks.
- Schaffer. Good.
- PK still bad
- PP... movement. They look alive at least.

I also used to think it was cool to find players in weird jerseys or their original drafted teams. #NHL

Other random #isles cards I thought were important when I was 10/11 years old.

Had some time to go through my old signed card collection. All cards signed while they were on the #isles, save for the gifted Kasaparaitis cards.

Now, Dobson leaves a huge hole on the right side and that needs to get solved, but it opens some money up front. We’ve seen teams with way worse d-corps on paper do fine. And the #isles do have that guy named Sorokin.

And, as we posted when Darche was hired and as he’s clearly made a point to focus on since joining the #isles, the JV team/prospects are seemingly his bread and butter.

On Dobson, look - these things happen. A lot of promise, though you really couldn’t tell who he was. And in a β€œwhat have you done for me lately league” + the desire for term and $$, Darche did what was right for the #isles

Don’t do much anymore, but thought it was worth hopping on to say the #isles did a good job in the first round. 3 picks is a huge shot in the arm on top of a few really good players brewing already.

Roy and Shanahan working together with the #isles? This might not work, but can't quite put my finger on why. Do they have a history?

When there's no news, people just say things, even if they contradict what they've said previously.

As I said in the thread yesterday, he has SOME experience, but needs to show he can do it (re: Lambert…) #isles

Saw this floating around from Botta. He’s got much more experience and insight, but - disagree. It’s a step in the sense of the title and responsibility, regardless of if there’s someone above him. Lots of GMs work with a PoHO. #isles

21.05.2025 16:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Darche is "inexperienced," but not really. Can he take what he's learned with the Lightning and Crunch and apply it with the #isles?

Personally, it sounds like an easier journey to go on with the "new" guy on the scene than to wait for Bergevin to make the mistake we've seen him make before.

20.05.2025 14:11 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

In short, if the rumors are true and it's down to Bergevin and Darche, both of those are huge risks for the #Isles, though for different reasons. Bergevin has, well, done some silly things. Has he learned from them?

20.05.2025 14:11 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Now, to be fair, the other half of the truth is, well - true. He doesn't have NHL experience running the ship on his own. He HAS been a part of their success over the last 10 years, however. For the #isles, it's an opportunity to hire someone with potential, perhaps with a guiding hand from a PoHO.

20.05.2025 14:11 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The #isles need a new perspective at the NHL level, but the JV squad is also in desperate need of ANY direction. If you've paid attention to the Lightning and how they seemingly have an endless caravan of players shuttling out of Syracuse, it's likely Darche had a role to play there.

20.05.2025 14:11 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

Thoughts and perspective on #isles GM search, specifically Darche: He's been with the Syracuse Crunch since 2019 (played 205 games with them, too) and is now the Asst. GM. The thesis: To say he's inexperienced isn't exactly the whole truth.

20.05.2025 14:11 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

This is the second most important GM hire in #isles history.

Last time they had to do this, they fumbled the bag from Torrey (1992) through… the Lamoriello era (2018).

Different time, new owners, all that. Still pretty nerve wracking.

With that said, we give so much credit to the growing number of #isles shows and the veterans pods that are producing great episodes. You truly have a gift and it’s been great to listen it all this season as we navigated our own path.

Final episode coming soon. Stayed tuned.

Hardly. After 3 of the same #isles seasons, it didn’t take long to almost completely tune this team out. Among other things, it was part of the reason NHP went quiet. What’s left to say?
