Tweets by Brian Goldstone dated 25 July 2025 read: βA reminder: framing homelessness as a problem of mental illness or addiction has been politically manufactured to divert attention from its *actual* causes-skyrocketing rents, poverty wages, gutted social supports-and to justify the removal of homeless people from public space.β βWhat CAUSES homelessness is the lack of safe, dignified affordable housing-full stop. To be clear: mental illness or substance use no more cause homelessness than a fever causes the flu.β

I wrote 2 books that lay out all that this implies: American Idolatry and Taking America Back for God
In short, this country was founded for and remains the sole province of these men (straight, white, able-bodied, Protestant, natural born citizen) and their women and children.
What does this imply for those of us who are not Christian, and who labor under the assumption that we're protected by the First Amendment?

Shout out to the Fox News hack who tried to intimidate me by contacting my employer and writing a (terrible) hit piece when I posted βAbolishing ICE is the moderate positionβ after Renee Goodβs killing.
Abolishing ICE is the moderate position.
this reminds me of my favorite Orwell quote that states, "We live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's going to do that? You?...Deep down at places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall."

One worked for the county, mostly plowing and driving dump trucks. He survived polio contracted as an adult, had a limp for the rest of his life. County provided a good pension & he enjoyed retirement.
One was a farmer then salesman. Worked until his last days.
I did not share the original story because my gut was that the sourcing was dubious. Someone who knows more about the sole source confirms that skepticism. Don't fall for clickbait, read the piece linked below.
(If the story is confirmed by other outlets, that's another thing. But ... it's not)

This is why you see leaders like Hegseth invoke God as the legitimating force behind these attacks. Christian nationalism necessarily invokes violence in order to defend the privileged access to power for the in-group, and to battle against the fear of losing that power.
03.03.2026 16:27 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0These Americans are more likely to endorse violence in order to βsave our country,β limit access to the democratic process, and support leaders using any means necessary to achieve law and order.
03.03.2026 16:27 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Americans who embrace Christian nationalism are more likely to demand obedience to authority. When asked, respondents agreed that βbecause things have gotten so far off track in this country, we need a leader who is willing to break some rules if thatβs what it takes to set things right.β
03.03.2026 16:27 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Any nation that fails to abide by these ideals risks losing divine blessing. For this reason, strong rules and a strong ruler are necessary to bring order out of chaos. And because the stakes of a rightly ordered society are so high, nothingβnot even democracyβcan stand in the way.
03.03.2026 16:27 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One of the key cultural markers of Christian nationalism is a preference for authoritarian social control. Christian nationalism views the world as constantly falling into chaos where the God-ordained hierarchies, boundary-lines, and social systems mentioned above are under constant threat.
03.03.2026 16:27 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0This vision serves to defend the privileges of one group while chipping away at the fundamental tenets of an inclusive democracy where Americans of all or no religious faith can participate.
03.03.2026 16:27 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Claims of βloving Jesusβ and βinstilling biblical principlesβ are focused on favoring a specific expression of Christianity to elevate, legitimate, and ultimately achieve a very particular vision for the United States.
03.03.2026 16:27 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
Which biblical principles?
Why those biblical principles?
It also excludes some Americans of other religious traditions or those who are not religious at all.
The particular expression of Christianity referenced by Christian nationalism means a lot more than just βloving Jesusβ and being patriotic. While the goal of infusing βbiblical principlesβ into American civic life may seem innocuous to many Christians, it raises the questions:
