The Heart and Soul nebulae are a pair of large, neighbouring emission nebulae in the constellation Cassiopeia, situated approximately 6,000 to 7,500 light-years away. Together, they form an extensive and active star-forming region within the Milky Way's Perseus spiral arm The Heart Nebula (IC 1805) resembles a classical human heart, the Heart Nebula is a substantial cloud of glowing, ionised hydrogen gas marked by dark dust lanes. The Soul Nebula (IC 1848) also known as the Embryo Nebula or W5 is adjacent to the Heart Nebula. It is a vast cloud of gas and dust illuminated by powerful particles from a cluster of new stars.

An emission nebula that is roughly heart-shaped against a backdrop of starts.
Been a while since I posted #astrophotography: here's the Heart Nebula, one of my favorite parts of the night sky (I say that about a lot of the sky though)
60x180s exposures (3 hours) with a Ha/Hb/OIII narrowband filter, from Bortle-5 upstate New York.

Andromeda galaxy, Messier 31. This is the nearest galaxy to our Milky Way home. This was a short series of images using red, green and blue filters, taken to test exposure length.
Andromeda galaxy, taken at the Kelling star party just before dawn.
I've not done much imaging using RGB filters before, so took a short series of images to test exposure and gain settings.
This is only 1ยฝ hours total exposure.
I'll try and do a proper session, hopefully with better framing!

A focus on a star forming region seen in infrared light. Hundreds of white dots, big and small ones, can be seen everywhere in the image as they are stars! A lot of gas can be seen in the image, covering almost every part of it. This gas is what is helping the new stars to be formed there. In the upper left part, multiple jets can be spotted: they are stars being born at this very moment! A lot of background galaxies can also be spotted in the whole image
The JWST had a new look into the IC348 star forming region last year, and here's my processed image of that observation! ๐ญ
IC348 is located some 1,000 light years away from us and is made of hundreds of new stars born there.
