Second, from a book on exploitation in the DRC, "hope is like a hot coal — take hold, and it will scald you to the bone."

Unsure which one I hold closer. Both, likely, in a breath.

One thing better than setting achievable goals for the year in early January is the inevitable reconsideration and de-escalation of said goals halfway through the month.

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

it's crazy that 500 years ago, you would see the ruler of your country maybe once in your life and hear whispers that they're the Sun God, but now with social media, you get to see on a daily basis that they're the most unhinged, idiotic, and unhappy person you know

Anyone with any knowledge of emerging politics, markets, and good sense knows this is, to use a technical term, fucking dumb.
