This seems like a lose-lose in a way, because just not ever showing certain minority groups wouldn't be good either. I think WEAPONS did good portraying them as people. And horror as a genre means everybody gets got in the end. I don't think there's a real solution to things like this.

He was a brilliant writer, and the whole problematic thing of it just enhances that experience really. There's a layer of good taste that needs to be removed to access some raw truths sometimes. It just is a work of genius.

Reading Bolano's 2666 in 2013, fresh out of college and moved to the wintry land of North Dakota to write about the oil boom, is a really formative thing for me as an adult. That was such a huge, fearless work of art. Nothing was the same after that.

Yeah I get it. Got to look for the really poignant or artful moments. I just can't help myself. I just do whatever I find interesting, and sometimes it's completely out there.

I've done some of my favorite genuine, pitch-black horror writing when sick with some sort of a fever or drinking a lot. I don't know what that says about the art or me.

This FRANKENSTEIN movie doesn't trust the viewer to understand the story at all. So much narration it's like why not just read the book instead. Oscar Isaac is surprisingly bad in this. He did great in EX MACHINA a decade ago and wondering how this one seemed to miss his strengths.

The thing about Mamdani is that heโs a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, heโs just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me itโs a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

I caught a few minutes of football at this bar yesterday where I was getting some writing done before comedy. Kept seeing Trump on screen. A whole country of reality TV stars and game show hosts that eventually get rewarded with being able to decide who gets health care and food stamps.

you are not a democrat. it is fine if that is your voting affiliation but if you have loyalty to a political institution right now instead of your neighbors and the rest of the oppressed struggling against this regime, you are focused on the wrong thing. and that goes just as well for politicians

Really floored by DIE MY LOVE. Elemental, chaotic, bruising picture - I'll have to think about it some more before I really write a whole lot more. These are two of our best actors and the direction was just stunning.

His last one KINDS OF KINDNESS was so fucking funny, all the way through. I think it's interesting when guys like this let their sense of humor show. Like how David Lynch made that third TWIN PEAKS season so funny in a lot of places.

It's all pretty sick stuff that doesn't really give you an olive branch of likability much at all - it's just twisted tales. There's some remove from the characters, almost an irony to it all, but there's real craftsmanship for sure.
