Timber door with ogee-headed wicket (smaller doorway through its fabric), set within massive, neatly dressed doorway, also of timber. The information panel by it reads:
DOOR AND DOOR FRAME
About 1500-30
The survival of this doorway is due in part to the robust construction, with thick broad planks strengthened by carved uprights and large iron nails. The door comes from a fine timber-framed house in Ipswich.
England, Ipswich
Oak
Given by Sir George Donaldson
Museum no. A.25-1913
Detached from its building but still looking fab, this early 16th-century door and doorway from Ipswich has a few features stylistically typical for that era, including vertical moulded fillets of wood hiding the joints of the timber boards on its outer face. From v&a. #ADoorAbleThursday

The Old Courthouse at Hawkshead in Cumbria. Probably dating to the C15th, the building is all that remains of the monastic grange associated with Furness Abbey. It would have served as the ‘local’ centre for managing the abbey’s lands and affairs. 📸 My own. #MedievalMonday

Yes, surprised more by the provenance than by the date. Massive oak timbers brought from NE Scotland especially for this construction. Very likely the oak was from the Royal Forest of Darnaway and its supply related to the royal patronage of St Giles by James II and his queen Mary of Guelders
