Sure, MLS aren’t completely innocent and have to take an element of responsibility in player development, but as I said… they’re limited to what they can actually do.

Right. I agree. We’ve had a really competitive league here for years.

You won’t find an argument from me with regards to the issues of youth football here, but that’s not the fault of MLS. The league aren’t allowed to go near most of the youth players unless an agreement is struck. Not as easy here as it is back in the UK. Youth clubs hear want their piece.

Genuinely curious what you deem fast enough? Because when I started covering MLS in 2011 compared to now, it’s night and day and has overtaken so many leagues in terms of consistent quality on the pitch, facilities, fan engagement and growth etc…

My point is… You don’t have to go to ‘Europe’ to find healthy competition. It exists here. I used Norway as an example because players used to go there from MLS, not the case anymore. I’m not suggesting it’s a top 5 league but if you think there’s no quality in MLS you aren’t watching.

There is absolutely no way you can convince me the Norwegian Eliteseren is superior to MLS. He’s not saying it’s better than the top 5, but what’s he’s suggesting is, you don’t have to be playing in Denmark, Belgium or the German 2nd tier to be considered anymore.

None of us are shocked that a top international manager is seeing what so many here have seen for a while; but it’s nice that he’s saying it.
