No one is covering the GOP's scheme to rig congressional maps for 2026 as closely as Democracy Docket. It is providing gavel to gavel coverage of the ongoing hearing over whether the Texas gerrymander will be in place for the midterms.

Iโ€™ve spent a good chunk of my career relying on American science and engineering to keep me alive. Yesterday, RFK Jr. testified at the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. It was sad to see him try to destroy the lifeโ€™s work of so many American scientists. He shouldnโ€™t be in this job.

The 51 former spooks lied. The former spooks did not lie in real time โ€” they expressed an opinion that the emails published by Rudy Giuliani had the earmarks of a Russian information operation and substantiated the reasons for that opinion with a number of true reasons. And some of the people who signed the letter say they still believe the Hunter Biden laptop โ€” the packaging up of all the records on one laptop โ€” could an information operation. Nothing in the Hunter Biden prosecutions disproves that โ€” the FBI never validated the laptop, never did an index of what was on it and when it got added. Indeed records prosecutors themselves submitted suggest that the copy of a laptop that John Paul Mac Isaac shared with Rudy did not match the laptop as it was earlier shared with the FBI.

The 51 former spooks โ€œsworeโ€ the laptop came from Russia. The 51 spooks did not swear the laptop came from Russia. They wrote an unsworn letter asserting that it had the earmarks of Russian involvement, even stating โ€œwe do not know if the emails, provided to the New York Post by President Trumpโ€™s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, are genuine or not and that we do not have evidence of Russian involvement.โ€

Dems created that story. Again, Trump is misstating the Democratsโ€™ role here. Dems definitely were behind the writing of the letter (though with the involvement of non-partisan spooks). But Rudy was the guy who โ€” after soliciting help from alleged Russian intelligence agents over the course of a year โ€” released the files in such a way that they could not be verified.

The laptop came from Hunter Bidenโ€™s bathroom. This allegation, like a recent claim Trump has made that the laptop came from Hunterโ€™s bedside, doesnโ€™t match the known facts but is very interesting nonetheless. The stated provenance of the laptop shared with John Paul Mac Isaac is that Hunter Biden dropped it off and JPMI offered it up to the FBI. But there is another laptop โ€” the one Keith Ablow sat on for a year โ€” that did cโ€ฆ

I wrote a 2,500-word post of the kind of fact-checking people who claim to be journalists should do if they want to disseminate Trump's tweets. Here's just a fraction of what it looks like.

In a conversation with TPM on Tuesday evening, Peter Whitford, Meridian's CEO, suggested that his company was unaware where state officials were using its products.
"When we supply the Division of Emergency Management out of Florida, we supply product to them," Whitford told TPM. "What they do with that product is not part of our purview.
"You're reading a contract I have no visibility to," he added.
Whitford declined to review the contract TPM obtained via the FACTS system.
"I do not need to see any document other than what I get from the division of Homeland Security," he said. "I do not know what they're doing with that. I do not know if one set is going there or 100 sets are going there. So, for me to make a comment on hypothetically where they're going would not be appropriate."

I spoke to the CEO of a company that has a nearly $12 million contract to provide barriers to "Alligator Alcatraz."

He told me that he didn't know his products were going to the facility.

I offered to show him the contract. He declined to look at it. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/contrac...

This means theyโ€™ll oppose programs that help regular people and call them โ€œfiscally recklessโ€
