It’s smart of the ATA to shine a light on the issue of private schools. I’ll bet a lot of Albertans think it’s bonkers that we fund them at 70%.

"Conservative lawmakers are confident the new bill will easily pass in the UCP controlled Legislature, but they may be in for a longer battle than they realize.

According to one source, the other side already has a counter attack waiting in the wings: the number 5,318,008."

Why are my tax dollars subsidizing private schools?

β€œStories about dubious contracts are already surfacing in both sectors.”

Sole source contracts w rampant conflicts of interest???

In fact not only does the UCP not value these services or people, they dismantle the services, while they attack their unions and deride the boots on the ground staff! The workers! Teachers, EAs, nurses, doctors etc.

So much this. They want power without responsibility, and action without accountability. They don’t want to lead, but want to be followed. They’re so unfit for the job, and the consequences will fall on all of us.

Some big bombshells in our new episode with Dr Paul Parks!

Including that Danielle Smith was warned by many experts her healthcare "refocusing" would only make healthcare in Alberta much, much worse!

Not so random posting of a poem I love.

Today the message can be flipped from Albertans back to the teachers.

To the teachers of AB:
β€œWe need you
and your stories
and questions
that like a fresh path
will take us to new vistas.”

Thousands of people with signs and placards in front of the Alberta Legislature in Edmonton

On the eve of one of the largest demonstrations of labour power in Alberta's history, sights like 20,000 supporters rallying in front of the Legislature for teachers and their students is inspiring. Solidarity! #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli

It strikes me that 2 of the most important reasons we even have a Prov Govt is to competently manage Public HC and Public Education...
But it seems like this govt neither cares for nor values these services or the people who work in them.

This is an everyday occurrence AB. πŸ‘‡
I wish it wasn’t so.

On the bright side there was an ambulance available to respond to your friend when in need! More and more often EMS are on Critical Alert and there are none available to respond in a timely manner.

Want to help me raise awareness?

We need education and awareness now more than ever. Long Covid is the #1 childhood chronic illness, people need to know the risks. gofund.me/c6fe1e9e

When I see Dr. Parksy's threads, it feels like watching a Netflix horror seriesβ€”except this isn't theater, it's real life. We all need to read this and pay attention. Rural ED closures are a growing, critical issue across Alberta. #Ableg #ABpoli

But what's the human impact?

Stay tuned... I'll share some real cases shared with me by my Emerg collagues across the province. They are very worried about the sub-optimal outcomes occuring on a daily basis. They are WORRIED for Albertans in rural communities...

Rural communities disproportionately impacted.

Once you lose services, and EDs close for good, it will be almost impossible to resestablish them.

And losing an ED often leads to losing all other services in the area.

Our rural sites are really in trouble.

Example of the impact of ONE closure:
- the notifications change daily, and no one really knows when the ED or various services are available.
- EMS crews (and pts) have to travel HOURS to get any care, leaving the area with NO EMS crews to respond FREQUENTLY

Here's a map to show what's happening on a daily basis...
Focus on the Northwest area for ex: Both Hinton and Edson being closed at the same time leave a HUGE area with no service, and their EMS crews can be gone for HOURS on transports...

- we are becoming aware of very bad patient outcomes that could have been mitigated if the EDs were not closed at the time
- govt has NO plan to address this growing RURAL crisis
- fragmenting the system and adding new corridors is going to make coordination harder
4/8

05.10.2025 14:48 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 5    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

- often when there is a VED covering a site, govt considers the ED still "OPEN" and does NOT list it as closed... but if an ED cannot take care of true emergencies, it is NOT an ED
- EMS must travel 100s of km to the next nearest ED, leaving the rural community uncovered

05.10.2025 14:48 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

- pts may not be aware and self-present with emergency conditions
- EMS crews are often unaware and show up to closed locations as well
- growing reliance on Virtual ED (VED) which can ONLY care for the less sick (CTAS 3-5), and refuses to provide any care/advice to CTAS 1-2

ED RURAL CLOSURES are happening more and more across AB 🧡:

Let's look at some of the issues, before talking about some real cases:

- the frequency of rural ED closures is growing - often with little to no warning for the community
- large areas of AB are left uncovered
