One thing that has become obvious after budget day: govt finally has to admit how much they have BLOATED the HC admin!
Looks like it took AHS from about 3.5% admin costs to 6.7% admin costs (or more)!!!
That's INSANE!

Surgeries cost more in Chartered Surgical Facilities, but Sam, Blayne and Jitendra etc need the money.
This reminds me of Jason Nixon celebrating an increase in amputations among the homeless in Alberta. That something is "working".

To be very clear: Minister LaGrange must not even know what Minister Jones is doing... because there has been NO "working very closely with AMA" on the TLP role. Minister Jones has not met with the AMA or with Emerg docs... NOTHING has happened by govt.
Very difficult to manage, requiring ICU admission.
Could have died.
Likely would have avoided ICU if interventions could have occurred upon arrival.
Appears govt/Premier happy to wait MONTHS on negotiations to add an ED WR doc as promised...

NP ordered tests and interventions not completed. The patient sat in the waiting room for 3-4 hours. When
finally seen in a bed, profoundly unwell with a heart rate of 140, diaphoretic and very sick.

Another Near Miss - govt aware, no response.
Pt in their 20s - with an intentional overdose and depression. Arrived to the ED WR in the evening and ED was severely overcrowded. An ordered tox workup was not done (no nurses to ensure labs drawn)

The government is taking credit for the fact that Albertans are sicker and doctors are working harder, and calling it a 'gift' to the profession.
ABs shouldn't be fooled by their song and dance...
Even worse: govt is spending MORE per pt in CSFs and private delivery!

If a Family Doc works a 15 hr day to see 40 pts instead of 25, the govt's 'investment' goes up. But the doc isn't getting a raise - just doing more work for the same price per patient, while overhead - staffing, supplies, and rent - continues to climb...

If this sounds like fluff... Albertans should know this is the same thing she's doing with announcing the govt is spending more money on doctor services simply because we have more ABs who need docs to deliver more care to them!

NPs and PAs are critical team members, and we need 1000s more in AB.
But you wouldn’t say anyone can land the plane in a disastrous storm… but our Premier would say it about pts dying in our ED WRs.
You know who is replaceable and interchangeable? A POLITICIAN!
