at the end of the day, i am someone who is very passionate about my creative work but more importantly am also Just a Guy. i value people who can just be Chill, and i think negging is cringe af. just be normal and nice. thank you for attending my ted talk

i think we all need to normalize just being comfortable with giving earnest compliments without weird caveats. if your friend does something cool, tell them it’s cool. i don’t necessarily thrive on compliments, but it does means a lot if a friend goes out of their way to say something kind to me.

3. this one’s more innocuous but still is silly to me, i think the phrase “don’t wanna blow smoke up your ass/give you a big head, but [compliment]” is such an eye-roller. i used to say this too, after hearing it so often, i think it’s a completely unnecessary conversation gymnastic.

i had to directly confront a former friend about this because it was like a conditioned response for him, it would literally be any time, even if like a video of mine popped up, “oh that guy sucks.” it’s such a strange reaction that i think says more about you than it does me.

2. one of the most tired “jokes” i hear is “oh, [thing sungwon’s in]? yeah i hear it’s great except that the voice acting for [sungwon’s character] REALLY sucks,” i’ve never really understood the point of this. it’s kind of a hacky thing to say, and i don’t say this about my friends’ art

1. people, especially ones in the same field as me, love to go “oh and btw, i STILL haven’t seen [thing i’m in] yet,” i would just like to let people know, i really, really do not care if you’ve watched something i’m in or not, there are plenty of things i’m in that even i have not seen/played

it’s 8 am in japan and i’m feeling retrospective, here’s a thread of different ways i’m commonly negged and why i think it’s all very silly

i think when you’ve achieved a certain level of success in your creative field, there are others who think that means your ego needs to be “taken down a peg”

being an ace attorney fan for over 20 years truly just changes your brain chemistry in a way i can’t even describe, i’m in japan and i will just buy anything that has ace attorney on it, no question, it’s a problem i will live with for the rest of my life
