I wanna talk a little more about my choice to quit pro voice acting. As you can tell by now, a lot of it is related to the deeply personal pain I experienced in voiceover. I’ve talked about losing jobs because I’m a YouTuber. I’ve explained how I’ve been hurt and dismissed. What you don’t know is that I’ve only talked about some of it. I will not talk about all of it, because it is incredibly painful and because I have no interest in starting drama. But the people in VO who’ve hurt me extend way beyond the ones I’ve mentioned. And I just wanna ask. Why? Why is it so hard for some of you to be decent? As someone who is a quiet, reserved introvert, so many actors have said SO MANY awful things about one another in front of me without thinking. Because they assume it’s fine. It is not.

I entered the industry hoping for a modicum of success and maybe some work here and there. I just wanted to do a job that my skills seemed appropriate for. Some of you treat this shit like a high school popularity contest, right down to the childish bickering and behavior. I defended myself from a smear campaign recently. I was able to do this because frankly? I have a sense of virtue and what is right. That is who I am. Some of you in voiceover treat being a basic good person like it’s a fucking complex obstacle course and it BAFFLES me. I have seen, time after time, actors or directors behave horribly - and almost all of you say “well I know they’re fucking awful, but they’re a connection I need to get work.” And I can’t blame you for that at all. But holy shit, it is disappointing on a colossal scale.

The people in the industry who have hurt me - the ones I haven’t talked about publicly - are people you all heap praise onto. People who are successful and y’know, good for them. I don’t want to take that from them. But they took so much from me when they chose to hurt me. Part of the reason last month’s bullshit hurt so much - one reason of many - is because people in the industry have tried to tell MY story without MY consent. Like it’s gossip. Like it’s fun to share with other actors while hanging out. It’s so fucking ugly and despicable to me.

I don’t NEED to be in professional voice over. It is a fucking job. But some of you act like it’s literally all you’d ever consider doing, and as such it is a clubhouse wherein you decide who is allowed in and who should be outcast. And from the outside looking in? It’s so sad. I don’t like bringing any of this up. But you’d better believe recent events stirred up old wounds. Undid so much healing. I assumed professional VO would be a more mature environment than the YouTube parody scene. I cannot understate how disappointed I was to learn otherwise.

Note the entirely different makeup job on his teeth (and in some regards his face)

It’s also… pretty apparent when you see it in motion.

And it’s not even the only AI clip on the guy’s feed so.

I want to be kinder. I want to be less angry and bitter all the time. I want to find peace and center my world around creation, love, and growth. I want to help others and be helped by others. I want to be a positive influence in people's lives.

But the world is making that *difficult.*

Short version because people aren't reading the blog

- "dislikes", essentially just a "not interested" button, private, doesn't effect anyone but yourself

- "Social proximity", puts people you know at the top of comments

- "Reply context", shows people full thread before they reply

You're gonna see some prolific VA talent get in bed with AI in the coming months/years while their less prolific community members lose opportunities across the board due to it.

Some of them don't care.

Some of them are too focused on the bag and the attention to do so.
