It's somehow more egregious on Eleanor's head because she usually looks so gorgeous (sorry June).

I love Eleanor Parker. She is genuinely one of the most beautiful women to ever grace the silver screen. And I love the criminally underrated romantic comedy #TheVoiceoftheTurtle (1947, Irving Rapper).

But this is such an unfortunate hairstyle.

Just watched #WhatsUpDoc (1972, Peter Bogdanovich) for the first time and it was INCREDIBLE 🀍 I can't believe it's taken me so long to FINALLY watch! Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'Neal and Madeline Kahn were phenomenal. Loved the story and dialogue too. GREAT film!

"Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker"

December 1st and my first-time watching #DieHard (1988, John McTiernan) πŸŽ…πŸŽ„ I know, I know. It definitely lives up to the hype. An action film often replicated (and outright copied), but it still stands on its own. Bruce Willis is fantastic.

My best guess...the police said Jill bought the dress that she died in (Alison's dress). But Alison also said she took her dress with her when she broke in. So there had to have been two dresses. Maybe someone (Dave?) saw her in Alison's dress and thought she was Alison?

I have a confession to make. I fell asleep during #PostmarkforDanger. Not a glowing endorsement, but I eventually finished this somewhat convoluted film noir. Big "Laura" vibes, but nowhere near as good.

Shirley Temple films are the ultimate "turn your brain off and don't think about it" films. George Murphy meets a 10 year old girl and invites her out for lunch (which she attends alone with the full consent of her parent). She then serenades him with a love song. #LittleMissBroadway #TCMParty

I actually think Neeson far exceeded my expectations of him in that role. I never would've guessed he had comedic chops like that (as a mostly dramatic actor) - but you're right, Leslie Neilsen just had THAT SOMETHING. A believable stupidity that you can't teach.

After Variety's Top 100 Comedies list was released today, I decided to FINALLY watch #TheNakedGun (1988, David Zucker) for the first time. I found it a lot funnier than I was expecting - I have such a weird sense of humor, I wasn't sure what to expect. But Leslie Neilsen, be still my heart.

#PrideandPrejudice (2005, Joe Wright) is one of the greatest films of all-time.

I could watch it a thousand times and still tear up at the ending.

I think what YasujirΓ΄ Ozu captures better than just about any other director is the melancholy of change. I think that's why I connect so deeply with his work. He explores the sadness within the passage of time.

"We mustn't want too much"

I can't put my finger on what makes Yasujiro Ozu's films so special. To explain #EarlySummer (1951, Yasujiro Ozu) to someone, they'd likely think it boring. But it's so quietly powerful. Every film of Ozu's is a unique, timeless experience. A meditation on everyday life.

The major difference being that Jesse’s new step-brother ended up being redeemable and was revealed to actually have a heart of gold. The end of the episode wasn’t β€œand by the way, he’s also a pedophile”.

I watched this film for the first time this year and it has been one of my favorite film discoveries. Not as well-known as Wilder’s other comedies, but just as hilarious and RAZOR sharp. The dialogue is incredible and the pacing has to be seen to be believed. James Cagney is phenomenal.

"You gotta bend like the wind or it'll break ya. Don't be a monument"

The final act of #DetectiveStory (1951, William Wyler) always gets me. Subverting expectations, the plot surprises in the best possible way. Eleanor Parker delivers a powerhouse performance in this underrated Wyler gem.

Tonight's movie (another @criterionchannl.bsky.social discovery) was #SoLongAtTheFair (1950, Terence Fisher) starring Jean Simmons and Dirk Bogarde. On the Eddie Muller scale, it's probably not quite a film noir- but it's still a very atmospheric, suspenseful period mystery. Perfect for #Noirvember!

I want Benicio to win an Oscar over Sean Penn. Everything from Bob first visiting Sensei to him jumping out of the car is GOLD. The best part of the film, for me. The heart of the film.
