don’t discount LA’s corruption or its political constructs which results in eight jillion overlapping and competing fiefdoms in Los Angeles county

one reason they don’t work well here is we rarely make them wide enough for even one mode let alone multi

I think a decent part of the dickish quotient is the difference between commuters (most cyclists, chill) and people riding road on multimodal paths where 20mph isn’t a friendly speed. But here again better infra will get everybody better separation

thought this was really good from @mmasnick.bsky.social. and i'm biased but i agree that if you've been staring at this tech world for a decade or two, you can really see this new administration clearly www.techdirt.com/2025/03/04/w...

The woman who created COBOL, the old (but not obsolete!) computer language that much of the Treasury's code is apparently written in, was a Navy captain. It's not like having high-ranking women in the service is some new thing.

One reason I left Twitter was because of the nonstop (in-) fighting between the centre/centre left and the left in housing circles. In an effort to build a bridge early on here, I’m going to talk about my experience, both lived, and as an academic/activist. To kick things off: zoning is racist.

I’ve been watching two sizable lots get developed this past year. Early on it was clear they’d be parking lots but soon after charging stations appeared (fine I guess). Today, they’re filled with Waymos. The most walkable, densest part of Santa Monica gets robotaxi pens, not housing

I didn't really predict that a a bunch of companies working to make life cheaper and more convenient would start us on a path to just NEVER INTERACTING WITH HUMANS and that seems very bad and like something to push back very hard against.
