ETNA STATEMENT 2026/03/04 14:05 (13:05 UTC) The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etna Observatory, reports that at 12:12 UTC, surveillance cameras observed an impulsive explosion from the Bocca Nuova crater, producing an ash emission that dispersed, within a few minutes, across the eastern quadrants of the volcano. Seismic activity recorded a transient of above-average amplitude at 12:12 UTC, possibly related to explosive activity. This transient was associated with an infrasonic event located in the Bocca Nuova area. The average amplitude of the tremor increased moderately from early today until approximately 8:40 UTC, reaching the average range where it currently persists. The centroid of the tremor sources is located between the NEC and VOR craters, at an average depth of approximately 3 km above sea level. Localized infrasonic activity continues in the Northeast Crater area, with medium and low amplitudes. Regarding the explosive event at 12:12 UTC, the permanent GNSS and clinometric networks monitoring deformation have not detected significant changes.

Landslides and magma accumulation continue in a similar fashion to the past few weeks; the inflow of magma is slow but steady. According to model calculations, about 22.5 million cubic meters of magma have now accumulated under Svartsengi since the last eruption in July last year. Working on a scenario review Magma has been accumulating under Svartsengi for about 210 days, making this the longest continuous period of magma accumulation since the eruption of the Sundhnúk crater series began in December 2023. If magma accumulation continues at the same rate, it can be expected that next week the amount of magma that has accumulated since the last eruption will be the largest between eruptions since the beginning of the volcanic eruption. The large amount of magma and the length of the magma accumulation period call for further review of the possible course of the volcanic activity. The Icelandic Meteorological Office is working on a review of scenarios for possible course of the activity and these will be presented in the coming weeks. It is important to note that the current long pause in eruption is not a clear indication that the eruption cycle at the Sundhnúk crater series has ended. Seismic activity Low seismic activity continues to be measured over the magma chamber. Seismic activity near Víkur has decreased. Risk assessment The Icelandic Meteorological Office's risk assessment remains unchanged and has been extended until March 31. The Icelandic Meteorological Office continues to closely monitor developments and will update the risk assessment if there are any changes in activity.

It seems that at the 'lower 3 measuring stations' it is only the earthquake impact and no increase ..... however, at ECPN there had already been a rise before ..... but the earthquake seems to have shut down the measuring station ..... 😭

STROMBOLI STATEMENT 2026/03/03 12:02 (11:02 UTC) The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etnean Observatory, announces that analysis of surveillance camera images shows that the effusive lava flow activity reported on March 1, 2026, at 5:23 PM UTC, has ended. Strombolian activity continues from both the North and Central-South crater areas. From a seismic perspective, the average amplitude of volcanic tremors is currently within the average range. No significant changes have been reported in the occurrence rate and amplitude of explosion quakes. No significant changes have been detected in the GNSS network data.
