A caracara, a type of flat-headed falcon, standing in grass.

Caracara across the street now. He looks like a thunderbird.

With a triumphant shiver, he leapt off the feeder and swooped like a calligraphy stroke to perch in a nearby nandina bush. Its dark leaves shivered with the victory. I was so happy for him.
