I think much of the issue is that most "developed" countries actually have a glut of PhDs. They have more than enough of their own scientists.
05.05.2025 11:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haley Britzky @halbritz AFRICOM commander Gen. Langley tells senators that China is "trying to replicate" USAID programs in Africa as the US scales back USAID. "They're trying to use that as an extension of the Belt and Road Initiative to gain favor by the African countries," Langley said.
Wow who couldβve guessed that this would happen
Itβs almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world
Itβs almost as if it was entirely predictable that Americaβs adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAIDβs destruction
I had an excellent call with President von der Leyen about the road ahead for Canada-E.U. trade.
Canada and Europe are strong, reliable partners. In a shifting global economy, that matters more than ever. Weβre ready to secure new transatlantic business opportunities together.
True facts.
10.03.2025 21:16 β π 44819 π 12545 π¬ 1300 π 689A reminder: Biden-Harris were making huge investments in infrastructure and productivity which were successfully bringing manufacturing back the US. And Trump froze most of these programs only to apply tariffs. He didn't want billionaires to pay taxes to support the economy.
07.03.2025 13:09 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Though I see that the blue states tend to subsidize red states with transfers, so there is logic in just a broadly applied counter-tariff would have more overall impact and, hopefully get him to back down faster. Although, honestly, he backs down incredibly easy already and our leaders know it.
06.03.2025 18:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It really seems you are just in the business of jumping on threads to try and promote your un-nuanced totalizing ideology.
06.03.2025 15:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Further, why are you even here? The thread is from me asking ppl more familiar with US political/legal arrangements if it is better for Canada to support blue states while tariffing red ones. You came with economic lectures, and you are really not qualified to lecture me on the economy
06.03.2025 15:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It is very established in evidence that there are two sources of coercive power: public and private. You did literally speak of private interests co-opting the US government. Claiming government is always good or bad would be a blanket ideological statement. That is what you did.
06.03.2025 15:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But zero truth-enforcement works even worse. But maybe it shouldn't be the content that is policed, but the power. Root out fake/bot accounts and eliminate the for-profit pay-to-be-seen model. Social media should be public not-for-profit media since rational discourse is a vital public good.
06.03.2025 13:51 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That is just a blanket ideological statement. Not rooted in evidence. As we've discussed. Without government, you have bare rule of economic elites and that's all. In fact, what you are describing is a weak government that is coopted by markets. All governments aren't as weak as yours thank God.
06.03.2025 00:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What are your enormous insurance companies for then? It's private. You are really stretching the argument to the absurd here. Even so, it does not support your argument that governments cannot do as well as the private sector. Which is where you started.
05.03.2025 23:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You are really stretching here. Canada is an entirely public system. It works much better and more cheaply. Before the US increased the public portions of it's healthcare, outcomes were even worse. It's about as clean a comparison as you can get. It extends to all countries with public systems too.
05.03.2025 22:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Per person health care cost Canada $6319 / US $12,555. Life expectancy Canada: 81.7 / US 78.8. Infant mortality rate Canada 4.5 per 1000 / US 5.8.

French Senator Claude Malhuret:
"Washington has become Neroβs court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."
That's a theory, but not based in evidence. For example, why is public health care much more efficient to provide than private?
05.03.2025 13:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You just need to look at our relationship throughout history to know that we will always help. It will by systematic and many will willingly open their homes and pay their tax dollars to help our friends and allies who are in distress.
