There are many research hosting services out there. Lots of them want to host your work in order to mine it for profit. Knowledge Commons wants to build a coalition of researchers, teachers, students, and more, in order to resist the authoritarian effort to undermine public access to knowledge.

#StopElsevier Turn the page on science in service of extraction

Would be interesting to explore how the manifesto could be extended to include other systemic actors such as publishers, maybe in combination with specific calls to boycott by groups such as @scientistrebellion.bsky.social (e.g. see stopelsevier.wordpress.com).

I am not sure about the call to localise scholarship though, this won’t be as easy or even possible for all disciplines (scholars also often cross different 'localities' in their work and daily life). Do agree with the crucial need for our institutions to recognise local research and knowledge more.
