And sci mat is only compelling because we forgot (by the surreptitious substitution of the map (matter +energy + laws of physics) for the territory of lived experience) that the abstraction CAME FROM experience in the first place. Experience is all we really know.

I think the key issue is that the hard problem only emerges when we assume scientific materialism. By assuming reality consists solely of abstract entities called matter and energy(by definition non conscious) we automatically create the problem of explaining how consciousness appears.
