Borrowing an idea from Georges Simenon, he proposed that he be shut up in a glass-sided box in the store, so that people could watch him starting a new book, to be completed before the exhibition closed a few days later. This stunt was abandoned, for fear that showing a book written so fast might provoke doubts about its quality. "'I try to keep myself down to writing twelve books a year,' Creasey told Symons on one occasion. 'It's no good, I can't do it. I write fourteen.'"
