Text from the book The Life of Crime by Martin Edwards, talking about author John Creasey.

"Creasey even arranged a crime exhibition at a London department store, displaying weapons used in famous cases. Borrowing an idea from Georges Simenon, he proposed that he be shut up in a glass-sided box in the store, so that people could watch him starting a new book, to be completed before the exhibition closed a few days later. This stunt was abandoned, for fear that showing a book written so fast might provoke doubts about its quality.

"'I try to keep myself down to writing twelve books a year,' Creasey told Symons on one occasion. 'It's no good, I can't do it. I write fourteen.'"

Ah, the good old days, when we worried about the quality of books written too quickly. πŸ˜’ Text from The Life of Crime by Martin Edwards (excellent book, highly recommend)

This is why you need to be reading books and writing your own emails, by the way. When you outsource your thinking abilities, you risk turning your brain into soup. Heavy dependence on AI has already been linked with severe cognitive decline. What you don’t use, you will lose.

I was trying to give them a chance to respond, but it's been 15 hrs and nothing so: LA WorldCon is using genAI "art" on their website and promo materials. Given everything that went down last year (and with SWFA recently), it's pretty disheartening to see this.

Sometimes you just have to do a micro cross stitch while you wait for the supplies for your next project to arrive.

Pattern by Living On The Rainbow, stitched over one on 32 ct. scrap linen. I had to skip several details because of how small it is.

Hi Courtney

Wishing you a good start to the New Year. I came across your work recently and wanted to write. Your writing stayed with me, and I appreciated spending time with it. As the year begins, I am curious how this period feels as a writer. Does the year change how you approach your work, or do you prefer to let ideas develop at their own pace. For me, this time is quieter and reflective, a goal to think about direction and intention. I would also be interested to know what first led you to writing, and whether that early
motivation still shows up in your work this day
Wishing you a steady and meaningful year ahead
