Just finished my fifth game of the excellent new General Orders: Sengoku Jidai! Beautifully produced (cute wooden ships!), intensely tactical, and well paced. Thanks to @djackthompson.bsky.social, @trevormbenjamin.bsky.social, and @ospreygames.bsky.social for another wonderful design.

So glad you dug it!

Got a chance to play Sniper Elite last night, once as the hunters, once as the sniper. It’s a pliable & snappy system making a pretty great blend of tactical combat and hidden movement, even if the modern warfare aesthetic has never really done anything for me. #boardgames @djackthompson.bsky.social

This week in sports the Falcons beat Minnesota, the Fever advanced to the semi-finals, and the Braves went 7-0.

My three favorite teams crushed it - what a week!

Mechanism: Roll-and-Write Games (expansions, promos, etc.) using a roll-and-write mechanism in gameplay, not just in images or theme. These are (usually) small and portable games that involve players rolling dice and marking...

This is tough. I queried BGG for Roll & Write family of games, PnP, and solitaire. I can't figure out how to further restrict it to historical themes. Here are the results: boardgamegeek.com/boardgamefam...

Queen of Spies by SaltandPepper Queen of Spies is a solo, story-driven board game of espionage and daring missions set in occupied Belgium during the First World War.

Very, very, VERY different. :) Whereas War Story is a purely narrative driven game, Queen of Spies is a thematic solitaire war-themed game. There is no direct narrative, but a very strong emergent narrative results through gameplay. @beyondsolitaire.bsky.social other thoughts?

No fixed narrative for this one. Totally replayable. The gameplay generates a very emergent narrative though, IMO.
