Der grosse Schnee in den Schweizer Alpen kam sehr spät. Vielerorts 50 - 100 cm Neuschnee, im Hochgebirge noch deutlich mehr.

In Davos konnte ein historischer Tiefstand der Schneedecke für Mitte Februar gerade noch abgewendet werden. Bis 1980 wurde die Schneehöhe vermutlich an einem Ort mit stärkerer Sonnenexposition gemessen. Entsprechend ist der Vergleich schwierig.
