It is extremely frustrating to talk about something like a wealth cap tied to 100x the minimum wage over a lifetime career, and people’s kneejerk reaction is β€œbut what if that affects me?” and I can promise you that you aren’t making $180million (to use California as an example)

The Case of the Terrifyingly Affordable Flashlight In this video, Maurice Moves highlights a pair of flashlights that are extremely useful & well-designed but also shockingly affordable. Most people never think about flashlights, but as someone who uses one daily for

Every rich person is going to tell *you* how great AI teaching is while sending *their* kids to the kind of schooling the Ancient Greeks would recognize. I just wish everyone would think about why that is.

I can see something like writing becoming more and more like tepid dishwater. Most people don't enjoy writing, and lots of people don't really discern the difference between good writing and bad.

I have heard it said that AI won't take your job, but someone who knows how to use AI will.

I still worry that in a field like programming--complicated and binary (works or it doesn't)--turning to AI means losing people with the skills to fix bugs.

An arms race to spam the model trainers.

I wonder if or when this could happen at the nation state level.

(Arguably the major players already have more power and ability to act than nation states do, without invoking national security requirements to act)

So apparently, it may turn out that The Wizard of Oz at the Las Vegas Sphere wasn’t entirely made in AI and Google threw the VFX crew under the bus by claiming it was all done by artificial intelligence.

If true, then fucking yikes.
