Voltage Poetry Project

This is one of the best pieces of your series - and it’s the “musical heroes of those no longer with us” dimension which is key. That ‘record club’ policy used to apply in my student flat. My flatmate is no longer around but, whilst we had very different musical tastes, records by his heroes are.

It seems I’m not the only one to release something featuring Antwerp Centraal Station this month! Lia Kohl’s recording, covered in this week’s @moonbuilding.bsky.social, captures the ambiance of the multi-levelled space brilliantly. Quite different to my #lofi city-wander from the grand building :-)

I actually considered some “non-representative” gigs for my list. Psychic TV, Madness, Something Happens, Florence & The Machine and Henge might have made that list. Madness and Henge were actually really good - and I don’t own any records by either act.

I’m sure there’s an album’s worth of material that could come from answering the question posed by @everylaststation.bsky.social in this post. That’s for the more distant future though (whilst drawing on the past); tomorrow I’m taking #FurtherVerses to London, by a slower type of train…

Invariably! Mind you, thoughts then tend to turn to really good songs of theirs that weren’t on that particular LP (or the non-album composition ‘Sugar Tax’ either…)

Somehow I misspelled Will Sergeant’s name… absolutely no excuse for that given I’ve a few #Bunnymen records and read each of his books!

This is a post I agree with. As a daring aside I will say one of the songs on ‘Further Verses’ was actually inspired by the Listening Party Tim Burgess did with Will Sargeant & Adam Peters for ‘Ocean Rain.’ A thank you to them for setting off my own Bath & Paris memories :-)

One week since the release of #FurtherVerses. Next week sees the start of one promotional project not involving any musically-focused publications, podcasts, radio or performances and a slightly different album tour…

The label I’m releasing via isn’t in this position. There’s a corporate visual style but, for example, @nwcalhoun.bsky.social @cosmicbos.bsky.social & @john-serrano.bsky.social differ from each other (and me) in terms of musical genres quite a bit. @hartshornmusic.bsky.social is the indie label.

Starting Sunday with a phenomenal review of #FurtherVerses from @revivalsynth.bsky.social (a link to it is below.) I am somewhat “blown away”!

‘Ocean Rain’ is nicely earwormy. The string arrangements for this song definitely enhance the lyrical content and delivery too.

#FurtherVerses release day (3): A quite moving response to the song ‘Tall Tales’ from @edwardgivens.bsky.social. This evening I heard from the friend who inspired this composition - they’re off to enjoy @peterhookthelight.bsky.social at Slateford (Edinburgh Corn Exchange) tonight!

Thank you very much. It was written about a friend of mine who (I think) could easily run quite idiosyncratic tours of his home city, infused with a deep affection for the place. Your “lovely sort of fragility” line, about the track, was great to read by the way :-)

The listening party for #FurtherVerses was really enjoyable :-) Unexpectedly, we had an apology for a lack of ecclesiastical architecture references and an imaginary #PetShopBoys album title, plus appreciation for a #Roland #CR78. Album out this Friday on CD, vinyl & download.
