Our current health care system is not designed to provide quality care to all people.

It is designed to make huge profits for insurance & drug companies.

In that sense, the system is working very well.

But it is not working for the average American.

We need Medicare for All.

What you can do Revised and expanded

In light of Trump II’s first 18 days of mayhem β€” including his and Musk’s coup against our system of government β€” many are asking: β€œWhat can I do now?”

Here’s a revised and expanded list, in rough order of importance.

2025 feels like a struggling tv show grasping for ratings, like it’s just inciting incident after inciting incident after inciting incident and a new poorly written cartoonish villain that nobody asked for and every week they somehow find a more ridiculous shark to jump

We Are Not Who They Think We Are: How Human Nature Matters In This Emergency
Rebecca Solnit

04 Feb 2025 β€” 10 min read
Welcome to the emergency--or rather Meditations in an Emergency, this newsletter, not the national emergency, which is of course very unwelcome. What's striking to me about all the things our morally and imaginatively impoverished billionaires, notably Musk and Trump, right now is: they do not expect or imagine or understand consequences. Any of them– their theory of change seems to be that they are going to do stuff and then it will be done. Like they're moving furniture around, like you and I and the trans and immigrant communities and federal workers and Canada and Mexico are just so many sofas and chairs that are going to sit where they place us. Like we're inanimate objects. Maybe everything is dead in the sad lonely worldview inside their head. Which would also explain their recalcitrance about climate and nature: if you see it as a collection of inert objects rather than an intricate living system in which what you do to any one part may affect the whole, you grant yourself more license to meddle. But today I'm here to talk about the human--and human nature, and how they misunderstand that too.

Ecological Grief: Mourning the Loss of Our Planet Ecological grief is defined as the grief felt in response to climate-related losses of valued species, ecosystems, and meaningful landscapes due to climate change.

From the TalkDeath archives, "We live in the Anthropocene – a time of ecological crisis and loss. This is the era of ecological grief."

As we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, we renew our pledge to keep his dream alive.

Dr. King devoted his life to others, reminding us "human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, + struggle."

Let's work for justice.

I know it must seem that predation by cats is β€œnatural,” but in the context of the natural world, it is not. Domestic cats are an introduced species, and birds did not evolve to understand how to evade them. Keeping cats indoors or on a leash is safest for everybody.
