If you're attending IAC 2025 in Sydney next week, join me for our paper "Understanding and Mitigating Data Limitations for Conjunction Assessments" in Session A6.7 (Room C4.10) on Sep 30 at 1500 AET. Don't miss this frank discussion of the challenges we all face performing CA every day!

6/ Finally, please remember we will almost certainly run out of 5-digit catalog numbers (at 70000 not 100000) before summer 2026. Be sure to read all of the documentation, adapt your code to use one of the new formats (we use CSV), and make sure your software providers do, too. And spread the word!

5/ And there are all sorts of useful suggestions in our documentation for how to help CelesTrak continue to support the hundreds of thousands of unique IP addresses we see each day. Please take some time to read it at celestrak.org/NORAD/docume... and adapt your code.

4/ Additionally, if you are using code that doesnβt check for errors, that only makes things worse. Today, we sent 20,553 HTTP 503 errors, but that didnβt slow down the onslaught of users trying to get data. Check for errors and try back later to help us out.

3/ We see millions of unique IP addresses each month (4.9M in Aug) & just $1/year from most users would allow me to hire & train staff to reduce the likelihood of another extended outage. Until then, all operating costs (servers) & work (both orbital analysis & computer admin) is being done by me.

2/ Since very few users donate so that we can hire permanent staff, if this happens while I am sleeping (yes, I do need to sleep) or am otherwise away from the computer, there is nobody else to resolve these issues.

1/ If you noticed CelesTrak was not available for several hours today, it was because some inconsiderate user or search/AI bot was hammering the site and rotating IP addresses to try to circumvent our cybersecurity protocols. That little stunt impacted tens of thousands of users.
